Facebook BANS Bitcoin ads just days after Mark Zuckerberg praises virtual currency

FACEBOOK has banned Bitcoin advertisements just days after CEO Mark Zuckerberg sang the cryptocurrency’s praises.

The confusing move was announced in a blog post by a Facebook product chief, who said the decision was made to keep users “safe”.

Facebook boss bans Bitcoin ads, despite singing praises of virtual currency earlier this year

The decision means that you’ll never see any advertisements for Bitcoin, or any other cryptocurrency – including popular rivals like Litecoin, Ethereum, and Ripple.

“We’ve created a new policy that prohibits ads that promote financial products and services that are frequently associated with misleading or deceptive promotional practices,” said Facebook’s Rob Leathern.

But he also admitted: “We may not catch every ad that should be removed”

The news follows Zuckerberg’s January announcement that he was looking into how virtual like Bitcoin could be integrated into Facebook.
